Jornada 22: Atlético de Madrid v Murcia

Posted by atleti on February 2, 2008

Quick entry.

A few words from Aguirre on the game:
“A victory would be great for all of us; we’d end the bad run of form and would allow us to continue in the Champions zone.”

“The game against Murcia will be a nervous one.”

STARTING 11: Abbiati; Perea, Pablo, Eller, Pernía; Maxi, Motta, Raúl García, Simao; Agüero & Forlán.

SUBS: Falcón, Antonio López, Luis García, Cléber, Miguel, David Fernández, Didi.

Complaint? I would have preferred to see Miguel occupy Maxi’s spot. Bench the Argentine, I say– in truth, he has been playing rather poorly. Miguel, on the other hand, has shown signs that he is more than ready to play from the very start.

INJURED: Seitaridis, Jurado, Leo Franco, Zé Castro, Valera & Mista.

SUSPENDED: Reyes.

MURCIA’S RECENT AWAY FORM:
3-1 loss against Zaragoza.
4-0 loss against Barcelona.
1-1 draw against Athletic.
3-1 loss against Sevilla.
1-1 draw against Mallorca.

Dismal record for the newly promoted team.

They currently sit #17 with 22 points.

This a team we should and must win. No ifs, ands, or buts. It’s bad enough we drop points against them in round 2 (uninspired 1-1 draw).

A big win is what everyone (club, players, & supporters) needs.

Vamos Atleti!

  1. The game against Murcia is very important. A new loss would be a disaster for the future of Atlético. I think tomorrow will play Antonio López instead of Pernía. I hope.

    Regards.

On the website, Aguirre gave that as his starting 11, unfortunately including Pernía.

The game won’t be on TV over here at all…

Atleti i don’t agree with you about Maxi, he is up and down the pitch playing both attack and defense, and in the last game he was really good.
The line up is ok, Lopez is better than Pernia, but in the context of tomorrow’s game, Pernia should be ok.

When is Seitaridis returning from injury??

Fair enough. I like Maxi, don’t get me wrong. I just haven’t seen much of his ‘hard-work’ amount to much lately. Mostly average performances.

Seitaridis should, hopefully, be back by March. I read recently that he’s started to work in the gymnasium and pitch a bit.

I think Maxi just isn’t the same after his ACL surgery. In the past, we could expect maybe .5 to 1 goal per game from the guy. Today, we’re getting zippo. Maybe it’s the position he plays? To me, he’s more effective as a hybrid forward than a midfielder. I don’t see a lot of playmaking coming from him. I think Miguel deserves more of a chance. I’ll take Antonio Lopez (whom Falcon describes as the most “cachondo” player on the team) over Pernia ANY friggin’ day. Interesting developments, however, on Atleti’s securing defenders for next year. I don’t know these players, but I like it it.

That’s exactly how I see it, Luiz. The hard-work (running up & down the pitch) hasn’t produced much in the way of assists and/or goals. A captain is supposed to INSPIRE players during tough times. I very rarely see him do that. In fact, he tends to disappear at times. It’s painful to watch at times because he is capable of so much more.

Miguel has shown brighter moments with the few minutes of playing time he’s been given (and his injury was far more severe than Maxi’s).

Aguirre seems set on continually using 4-4-2. Perhaps he should consider something like 4-3-1-2?

Actually he does not need any change in players…just a change in positions..kind of crowding the midfield by moving Maxi in the middle instead of asking him to be outright wide.

Maxi normally plays on the right; if he doesn’t, it’s because we are short of central midfielders (like when Motta was suspended & Raúl was injured).

Here’s hoping for a 3-0 win (or bigger)!

    Half-time: 0-0

I hope that will change when I return in a few hours.

What a waste of a result. We are losing the momentum that we got in the first half of season.

Again and again and yet again… what a disillusion :(

How long is Aguero out for, that’s a big blow. How was the game, i missed all of it due to family commitments?

  15. atleti said

    Dreadful. Just dreadful.

Kun will be out for about 2 weeks.

Eller, one of Pitarch’s favourites, was to blame for the penalty.
