We’re linked to central defenders: Fenerbahçe’s Diego Lugano and Sao Paulo’s Alex Silva. It’s a promising sign in that it means that the higher-ups of the club recognise our ‘achilles’ heel’ and are investigating possible signings for this January.
Lugano is a 27 year old Uruguayan with an Italian passport. He currently plays for Fenerbahçe, but has made it known that he would like a move out of Turkey. I remember reading a month or so ago that he was keen on joining Juventus. AS claims his services could cost the club €6 million.
The move would link him up with fellow countryman FORLAN.
Alex Silva is a 22 year old Brasilian currently playing for Sao Paulo. He’s a young player with a promising future, as the article put it. It would be risky to invest in him in January, though– not only does he lack experience, but he’s also recovering from an extentive injury at the moment. No thanks.
There’s still enough time for the club to explore other possible signings.

Meanwhile, the pressure for Motta to return to action is increasing now that Raul is out with injury. As it turns out, Raul would not have been available to play this weekend anyway: he will be serving a suspension. AS suggests that he could be back to action for our home game against Valladolid in two weeks.
NB: Motta hasn’t played for the club since September (during the away game at Murcia). The only other option for central midfield is Cleber, who hasn’t played in Liga at all.

I’m not sure about Lugano, is he good enough to solve our defensive problems? I think we should go for someone better than Lugano. Why do we spend a lot of money on attack and when it comes to defence, we hold our hand. If you want to build a good team, you must begin with defence.

I’ll be honest, I’m not crazy about Lugano. Each time I’ve seen him play, he has been sent off- for both Uruguay & when he played for Sao Paulo. I’ll have to watch how he’s playing now to make a better assessment.
That said, I think there are better options available than him. Let’s see how things pan out in the coming month.

Good defenders are crazy expensive these days. Gabi Milito has been awesome since Barca signed him, but he’s going to cost up to 20 million euros. Andrade went to Juve for quite a lot of money as well, and same with Chivu to Inter.

Hush you! ;) The truth, it hurts!
When you’re on a budget, choices are slim. Here’s hoping we can find a couple of reliable, hard-working defenders in our price range…
I’ve been trying to think of good defenders that have fallen out of favour in the respective clubs— anyone come to mind?

Just a few final words before I call it a night. I’m sick to death of the articles that claim Kun is wanted by just about every big club in Italy (Inter, Juventus, & Milan).
Another defender we’re linked with: Manchester United’s Piqué.

it’s chill, aguero’s heart bleeds red and white, i can see it in his eyes. besides, this years atletico is much more encouraging and promising than the past few years, here’s to hoping aguero takes us to the top and stays with us!

Cerezo says that Aguero won’t be moving to Italy, he’ll be staying at Atletico for many many years to come. When the chairman says that you know the club are intending to keep him and not sell him.

Eh, I don’t trust Cerezo. The same thing was said about Torres. That said, Torres wanted to leave. ‘The kid’ made some revealing comments fairly recently– my opinion of him has lowered considerably.
As for Kun, I think he wants to stay with us. He seems like a sincere guy. If he remains at the club for the rest of his career, he’ll be considered a true legend/figure.
The rumours of other clubs make me sick, though!

If Atletico sell Kun, the management deserves to go. It’s that simple. Therefore, I believe that he won’t be sold.
Gerard Pique is a really good defender, and if he doesn’t get enough games at United, could be a great pick-up, even on loan.

ya i’d love to have him, but he had a pretty solid game in champions league today, i have a feeling sir alex would be keen on keeping him

Loan deal would be good. He barely plays at Utd. I think he’s mostly used for Champions League.

I remember when Atleti brought the Mexican international great Hugo Sanchez to Spain in 1985 where he scored 19 goals & won the Pichichi & Copa (scored two goals in the Final) before being shipped to cross town rival Real Madrid after only 1 season with the rojiblancos.
Let’s hope something similar doesn’t happen with Kun.
