Jornada 8: Atlético de Madrid v Real Zaragoza

Posted by atleti on October 19, 2007

First  and foremost, here’s hoping we return to winning ways Sunday night– anything less than a win would be a disappointment.

Just a Few Background Notes
*This will be the first game Gabi and Luccin play against Atleti since their move to Zaragoza during the summer. Gabi, especially, considers it a ‘special’ fixture for him since came up through the youth ranks of Atleti. At the same time, he hopes that his encounter will ‘prove’ to the higher-ups that it was a wrong decision to let him go.

*Luccin is still rubbish.

*Last season’s 0-1 home loss to Zaragoza was one of many disappointing results we had to endure. PAINFUL.

A few Squad Notes {UPDATE}
Starting 11: Leo Franco; Perea; Pablo; Antonio López; Zé Castro; Maniche; Raúl García; Maxi; Luis García; Agüero; Forlán

SUBS: Abbiati; Pernia; Cleber; Jurado; Valera; Simao

Back in the squad: Leo Franco, Perea, and Valera (finally!). It looks like we’ll finally see Luis in the starting 11 because Reyes is out ‘injured’ (Hmm).

Unavailable (injuries): Motta, Mista, Miguel, Seitaridis, Reyes.

*Forlan has about 24 hours to recover from his long flight from Uruguay- he should still be ready to start. The same goes for Kun and Maxi— both players are understandably exhausted from the jet lag. It usually takes 3-4 days to return to some normalcy. At the very least, I hope that they have a restful Saturday.

Some words of Aguirre on international break:
“It is difficult to work in such an unusual week like this…But we have coped with rotations in other games and I think that we are ready to play…It is hard because there is not time to rest. Our initial plan was to have two players for every position, but with injuries and other things we have to make changes.”

Lots of Argentines in this clash:

Atleti: Leo Franco, Pernía, Maxi, Kun.

Zaragoza: D’Alessandro, Pablo Aimar, Diego Milito.

do you know who is showing the match?

It isn’t available anywhere– TV rights prob, I think. It was originally scheduled to be live on TV. Instead, they’re showing a delayed taping of Villarreal v Barcelona.

Great first half 2-0 up, 9 shots at goal 7 on target, that’s really good.

Can’t wait to do the write-up for this one– 4-0!

Great win, looks like Maxi is getting back into form. It’s a shame that aguero didn’t score, then he would be tied with Messi for the top goalscorer.
