Ah, good old AS…

…always around to dredge up the forgettable past.

They featured an article yesterday pointing out that Atleti’s start to the season (1 point out of 6 points) occurred in similar fashion during the 05/06 season with manager Carlos Bianchi. Due to a string of negative results, the season ended without Bianchi.

Of course, they’re suggesting that an away win at Murcia is crucial not only for the club, but also for Aguirre. I’m still firmly convinced that he’ll be sacked if we don’t win our next three fixtures: away to Murcia, home to Racing, and away to Athletic Bilbao. Given the number of talented players in the squad, it is not an impossible feat. All of these clubs have their strengths at this point (Murcia must be feeling fairly confident in picking up 4 points out of 6, Racing have a fairly impressive defence from what I’ve seen so far, and Athletic have strengthened their defence as well).

My starting 11 (providing there are no injuries):

Seitaridis—-Pablo–Perea—–Antonio Lopez
Simao—-Raul Garcia–Motta—-Reyes——-
————–kun– Forlan——————

Minor Explanations
*I’m certain Aguirre will choose Leo Franco over Abbiati, but I like the Italian a lot. He seems more reliable.

*Antonio Lopez over Pernia. Good God, Pernia is playing terribly lately. Did you see him with Spain against Iceland this weekend? Just awful. Why is Luis Aragones even using Pernia? Surely there’s a better, homegrown left-back in Spain than him.

*I was a bit torn with wingers. I think that Maxi should sit this one out– first, he’s not playing well and second, he might not be fully fit for this game.

*Reyes should have an opportunity to play from the very beginning. He’s been whining to the press about how he’s surprised and a bit disappointed that he’s been warming the bench so far. So, I say give him a shot. Let him prove that he’s worth having in the starting 11.

*I think Motta should replace Maniche for this fixture. First, Maniche has been very busy with international duty and second, again, we need to inject new ideas and try new options. I got the impression that Motta provided key passes in the central midfield throughout the friendly against Zamora. It’s worth a try starting him– he’s hungry to prove his quality. I’ll be disappointed if I see him on the bench for our next game.

*I don’t think Luis Garcia will make it to the starting 11 for Aguirre, but I really wish he’d use him more.
