Mini-Transfer Rumour Wrap-Up

Posted by atleti on August 26, 2007

*Peter Luccin is set for a move to Newcastle or Birmingham City (now that he has fallen down the pecking order). This looks like it’ll become a reality this week– hopefully we’ll get some sort of sum for him. Oh, and who ever transfers him to their club, I’m so very sorry for you. I’ve found this in both the English & Spanish press.

*AS (again) claims that Atleti will want to sign Javi García from Real Castilla (think: Jurado) once Luccin is gone.

*Or, they have also been linked with Barcelona’s defensive midfielder Thiago Motta. I’m not so sure about this one. I think Motta is definitely on the chopping block, but I don’t think he’s headed to Madrid. Italian press has suggested a move to AC Milan might be in the cards.

UPDATE 27-August:

*Given that the Braulio loan deal hasn’t been confirmed yet on the official website, I’ve deleted my entry about his departure from the club. As it stands, it’s still a rumour that he will be loaned out to Getafe on a season-long loan.

*As stated in the comment section, AS are now claiming that Atleti might be interested in Rafael Marquez again.

We’ll have to wait and see, of course. 3 more days until the transfer window closes! Stay tuned.

Motta’s definitely on the way out, but he’s having a row with the club because he wants a free transfer and we want some money for him. I’m not sure he’s the answer to Atletico’s problems.

He’s definitely not the answer to our defensive problems. I just read on AS that Atleti are back in it for Marquez, plus Motta. The buzz by nearly all supporters (myself included) on the possibility of Marquez is, “Yes, please!” Unfortunately, AS, as you know, isn’t the most reliable source, so let’s see what happens.
