Transfer News & Such

Posted by atleti on August 6, 2007

Atletico Madrid’s youngsters, Braulio and Julian Vara, are adamant about staying with their boyhood club. Braulio looks likely to stay as a striking option. Julian Vara’s situation is slightly different: the right-back will have a difficult time receiving any playing time with Seitaridis as manager Aguirre’s #1 choice for that position. Juan Valera, although still recovering from an injury, is still second-choice right-back. Vara would like to stay and prove his worth, but he may be seen as excess. He looked good against Lazio, but he’s still quite young and ‘blandito’.

Meanwhile, Mariano Pernía, the Argentine left-back who failed to impress last season, looks likely to stay after being linked to a move to Depor. He told the press: “Aguirre didn’t want me leave.” Hm…

In other news, Ivan Cuellar (aka Pichu). Remember him? He was the goalkeeper during that Barcelona thrashing we received last season. Who can forget? Nightmarish. Well, he has joined SD Eibar on a year-long loan. This means, as expected, that Christian Abbiati (on loan from Milan) is now 2nd choice goalkeeper. WHEW.
