OUR FIRST PRE-SEASON WIN, albeit against a lower division team. In any case, it’s all about building confidence and continuing to blend as a team. According to match reports, we played a stronger game in the second half…
First half squad: Leo Franco; Seitaridis, Valera, Pablo, Pernía; Camacho; Miguel, Cléber, Reyes; Diego Costa & Luis García.
Second half squad: Coupet; Perea, Heitinga, Ujfalusi, Antonio López; Assunçao; Maxi, Raúl García, Simão; Forlán & Sinama Pongolle.
Is there any doubt that the second half squad is our top squad? I have yet to see them play with my own eyes, so I look forward to our Champions beginning soon.

It worries me that out of our 7 preseason goals, 6 were scored from set pieces. Surely, it’s a good thing we score from set pieces, Heitinga is a known force in the air, but it worries me that we’ve scored only once from open play, that was Forlán’s goal, which was on a counterattack even. For me it’s another sign that we need a playmaker. If Agüero would get injured, we’ll be a team dependant on counterattacks and set pieces…

very very true, it’s imperative at this point. and why is van der vaart valued at only about 10 million euros? if david silva is 21 mil, then van der vaart should at least be around 18. in my opinion we should’ve put more effort in getting him, even though I don’t think he considered us prestigious enough.
also, the 2nd squad is undoubtedly our A squad (except for pongolle instead of aguero obviously), but I don’t like the fact that camacho’s playing time looks to be in jeopardy. I think we should really put faith in our youth prodigies like him, though obviously i’d start assuncao over him but I just hope we still show him that he’s in our long term plans

It had been better to play against another team. Alcala or Rayo haven’t the necessary level to prepare the champions league match versus Schalke 04. Greatings from Spain.

Yeah, our pre-season friendlies have been against some dubious sides. Disappointing that we could not arrange friendlies with top opponents.

It doesn’t matter too much who we play against as long as we get a good run in to the CL qualifier, we must go into that match with some self-belief and confidence.
Pongolle is a disappointment and i was very unhappy when we signed him, and nothing that i’ve seen of him so far has made me change my mind.

Por fin ya hemos ganado el primer partido,al quinto fué la vencida jeje,mañana jugamos frente al Rayo Vallecano el Trofeo Teresa Rivero,a ver que tal jugamos,el resultado no importa demasiado,ya que solo sirve para preparar la forma para el día 13,para jugar contra el Schalke 04,venga,saludos!

Not to be on this thread…but Reyes is on the verge of joining Benfica on a season long loan. He should be presented in a day or two.

Apparently, we’re BROKE. We can’t sell who we want to sell -> No money -> no new playmaker !!
I hope things go our way and pass Schalke and those 15 million Euros. $_$

I was reading that we might be getting in Banega on loan from Valencia for a year with a view to signing him outright after.

See it in this way…he earns around $3 Million per year, not in the good books of the coach and we have an obligation with Benfica for a player exchange either on loan/transfer.
I personally hate to see him move away…but this gives a good chance to Miguel.

Well.. the TAS has decided that the clubs don’t need to let the their players go to the Olympics then:
-Barcelona should have Messi back.
-Werder should have Diego back.
-Schalke 04 should have Rafinha back.
Will Atlético have Kun Agüero back?
I don’t like this idea of taking the player from something he wants. Maybe he will get mad with this. Atletico needs to be very smart.

El jugador, que está con la selección argentina en Beijing junto a otro madridista, Sergio “Kun” Aguero, suena con fuerza para reforzar al equipo albirrojo. Las arcas del conjunto de la capital española acaba de conseguir dinero fresco, con el traspaso al Benfica del atacante José Antonio “La Perla” Reyes, en una de las principales operaciones del mercado futbolístico en el verano español.
Según los diarios españoles Marca y As, que consignan este miércoles el interés del Atlético de Madrid, las posibilidades del traspaso de Banega son grandes, dado que el jugador que llegó en enero pasado por 14 millones de euros y con un contrato por cinco años, no es tenido en cuenta por el director técnico del Valencia, el vasco Unai Emery.
Atlético de Madrid tiene de plazo hasta el 7 de agosto para inscribir a los jugadores en Liga de Campeones, y del 7 al 31 podría hacer una incorporación, por ello el club dejará libre una plaza por si llega un refuerzo, según anunció.
El volante argentino podría llegar préstamo y el club rojiblanco tendría una opción de compra sobre él, que ocupa una plaza de extracomunitario. Si asi lo consiguiera, la intención de la entidad Manzanares es ceder a Diego Costa, ya que ocupa plaza de extracomunitario.
Sin embargo, la llegada de Banega u otro jugador podría quedar supeditada a la marcha del portugués Maniche, a quien se le busca equipo por la mala relación que tiene con el entrenador Javier Aguirre.
